Website redesign

The Clementine Website redesign project is a group assignment from a boot camp course where we were tasked with redesigning a non-profit website. The project was completed over five weeks, with three members, including myself, sharing the work. We conducted a heuristic evaluation based on feedback from four users to assess the need for a redesign. After reviewing the website and the feedback, we identified the main goal of the site as generating donations. Although we did not receive direct feedback from stakeholders, we assumed that focusing on donations would be the best approach for the redesign.

Final Thoughts

In past projects, our enthusiasm for the product sometimes hindered our ability to consider the perspective of skeptical users. This time, the lack of personal investment helped us take a more objective approach. User feedback was crucial in guiding our work, giving us a clearer understanding of our objectives. Overall, this process taught me a great deal about the design journey, emphasizing the importance of user insights and the transition from an initial idea to the final product.

Next Steps

  • While I'm pleased with the design of the Clementine Ranch website, there are still improvements to consider. Since this was a class project, gathering stakeholder feedback would be beneficial to track its success.

  • Due to time constraints, we conducted limited user testing with two individuals who found it more usable than the previous version. However, they wanted more transparency on how donations are utilized, which we should address.

  • Additionally, while we referenced the ranch's musical connection, we need clearer explanations on the website. Emphasizing the studio plan with a slogan that ties together the animals and music could enhance this aspect.

  • Lastly, we didn't implement experiential elements we envisioned for the ranch, like visitor opportunities and live video feeds of the animals, due to project constraints. These could boost brand awareness and donations.

  • This project taught me a lot in just five weeks, especially the value of collaboration and the potential to create something impressive, even without an initial passion for the organization.

User-Research

For this project, we chose Clementine Ranch. After a thorough review of the website, we identified several significant design and user experience flaws. To gain an objective understanding, we presented the website to four individuals who were potential donors to a non-profit. None of them had previously visited the site. Our heuristic testing included a 5-second test to capture first impressions, followed by an exploration of the website to understand the users' experiences. This process highlighted our user-centric approach.

User research provided a clear starting point, highlighting the need for more accurate and quality information to build confidence in the brand. Overall, we aim to create a warm and inviting brand theme while delivering a more direct message.
