Stride Quest

The Design of an immersive walking app 

The Stride Quest project was an open-ended assignment for our class. The initial idea was to create a fitness workout app similar to Pokémon Go or Clue, aimed at making walking more enjoyable and engaging. This was a team effort involving four of us, and I served as the project leader. 

Over the course of three weeks, we researched, designed, and prototyped the app. We conducted user research to understand what features users desire in a fitness app and what captivates their interest. This involved user interviews with five individuals and a survey of 22 participants. 

Our findings guided us in an "I like, I wish, I wonder" ideation session, which enabled us to prioritize our ideas using a matrix to outline our user process. This led us to start sketching as a group and determine our design style, progressing from low-fidelity to mid-fidelity prototypes. This process allowed us to conduct two rounds of usability testing, ultimately resulting in a finalized design.

Final Thoughts

This project was an excellent learning opportunity. We were given a lot of freedom but had limited time, which taught me a great deal about establishing timeline structures. Additionally, I gained valuable insights into the design process, particularly how to develop an idea from a small concept into a fully realized project. As the project leader, I found it challenging to manage team member communication and individual visions for the app. This experience has reminded me of the importance of maintaining continuous communication and regularly touching base on our end goals.

Next Steps

  • Explore different genres and adaptations (ie, unique Ui per genre) to go with a Variety of genres

  • explore Omni channels, including Apple Watch, Occules,  smart TVs and fitness equipment monitors

  • make the clues audio component and incorporate it 

  • explore virtual reality adaptations
